President Bush’s 2009 budget proposal, released Feb. 4, proposes a devastating  $120 million cut in Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) funds, caps Victim of Crime Act (VOCA) funding at the lowest level in 6 years, does not provide any increases for Family Violence Prevention and Services Act (shelter) funding, and ELIMINATES the $2 billion in the VOCA reserve.

Featured Service

GLBTIQ Services

RCSGL recognizes that rape and sexual assault are issues in all communities including those who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex and questioning (GLBTIQ).

Sexual minority youth (i.e. students who either identify as gay, lesbian, or bisexual) were significantly more likely than other students to report having experienced sexual violence against their will (Hanlon, Massachusetts Youth Risk Behavior Survey, 2004).

Also, in a study of 162 gay men and 111 lesbians, 52% reported at least one incident of sexual coercion by same-sex partners (Waldner-Hougrad, 1997).

In response, RCSGL offers safe, supportive and inclusive services to the GLBTIQ community. All services are free and confidential and include individual counseling, legal and medical accompaniment and our 24-hour crisis hotline.

We are also beginning a group for survivors of child sexual abuse, adult rape and/or incest who identify as gay men. The group will focus on coping skills and will involve discussion, exercises, activities and the use of creative arts.
